Feeding the Fire Department

I've got a story for you that's going to make your mouth water and your heart smile.

Recently, my kids, Carson, Cooper, and Presley and I took on a culinary challenge that was as rewarding as it was delicious.

We decided to make barbecue for our local fire department as a way to say thank you for all the hard work they do. And boy, did we cook up a storm! With the help of our trusty Monument Grills 86030 Pellet Smoker and Pit Barrel Cooker, we smoked pork butts and brisket to perfection.

And let me tell you, those ribs were fall-off-the-bone amazing.

Of course, we couldn't have done it without the generous donation of Heritage Farms in North Carolina. Their ribs and pork butts were so juicy and flavorful that we barely had to add anything to them. But for the ribs and brisket, we used TX Brew and Barbecue rubs, and for the pork butt, brisket, and remaining ribs, we used Kosmo's Q rubs. They were the perfect complement to the meat and added just the right amount of spice and flavor.

But the best part of this adventure wasn't the food (although it was pretty darn good). It was delivering the meal as a family and getting a personal tour of the fire station. The kids were over the moon when they got to dress up in the fire gear and perform duties like real firemen do. And as a Dad, seeing the smiles on their faces was worth every minute of the prep and cook time.

We documented our entire adventure in a video, which I highly recommend watching (link below). You'll see the kids in action, learn a few cooking tips, and get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making a meal for our local heroes.

And lastly, I want to give a big shoutout to Heritage Farms in North Carolina for their generous donation of delicious meat. If you're in the market for some high-quality pork, check out their website at www.buypork.com. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.

Thanks for reading and watching! Until next time, make sure you eat well, do well, and serve good food!
